That's why we're bringing a delightful, engaging and highly entertaining form of theatre to the San Miguel community called "solo theatre." Your support of this festival will allow the vital creative force of these one-person shows to not only entertain us, but inspire us, expand our perspective, remind us that we are all capable of positive change, resilience and hope.

What's the concept behind San Miguel's first annual Solo Theatre Festival?

The intention is to bring to the community a fabulous variety of high-quality, professional one-person - or mostly one-person - shows, in English this first time, performed by highly-skilled solo theatre artists. The parameters for selection, beyond professional theatre standards, is that each show is as moving and impactful as it is engaging and entertaining to our theatre-loving audiences. ​We've selected 6 SPECTACULAR solo shows from New York, Chicago, Denver, LA, San Francisco and San Miguel, to create a balance of styles and themes: drama, comedy, musical; autobiographical stories and a biopic of an iconic celeb. Each show will have two performances over one weekend. ​There are three shows per weekend (Thursday - Saturday. The biblioteca is closed on Sundays). Week 1: March 14, 15, 16 - 2024. Week 2: March 21, 22, 23 - 2024. ​​There are also exciting Master Classes taught by the artists, Q & A panels, and a fabulous student showcase! ​The Student Showcase gives up-and-coming solo artists an opportunity to present theatrical scenes they've written and rehearsed, on a professional stage with a live audience. These additional events will increase audience engagement and attendance as well. 

Where are the shows taking place?

All theatre events will take place at the beautiful Teatro Santa Ana, a newly renovated 91-seat theatre housed within the well-loved bibilioteca (library) in the center of town.

A bit of demographics/info about our audience: 

As you may know, San Miguel de Allende is a cultural mecca, with a rich blend of Mexican culture and international influences. It attracts hundreds of thousands of English-speaking foreign retirees, artists, writers, and performers predominantly from the U.S. and Canada, but also from all over the world. Residents and world travelers alike have a high appreciation for culture and the arts, including music and theatrical performances. Foreign residents are mostly retired, many of whom own their primary or second home here, and are enthusiastic and supportive of the arts in all forms.  ​The Teatro Santa Ana has a seating capacity of 91. With two shows each night, for 6 nights, Q & A panels, workshops and a student showcase, there is a potential of over 1000 guests attending the performances as a highly-engaged and attentive audience. And, potentially, thousands more visiting the website and seeing social media posts.  ​We anticipate having a very well-attended, sold-out series of events, with the festival growing exponentially each year.  ​This means that your brand (or your favorite charity) will be seen by thousands of enthusiastic San Miguel arts and theatre lovers!

Imagine the thrill of spending some time with a super talented, professional solo theatre artist in your own home! You'll get some nitty-gritty, behind-the-scenes perspective like no one else in town about their trajectory and their process. Besides, each of them is delightful!

If you have a home with a spare bedroom and private bath, or detached casita that's somewhat close to centro and Teatro Santa Ana, please let us know.  Likely there will be two people, as they may travel with a companion. 

If you want to be an angel, and offer your space, please let us know and we'll chat about the details!

In exchange for your generosity, you will receive TWO TICKETS to one of their two performances!

Take this opportunity to be part of something important, different and super exciting!

As you can imagine, there are a lot of details to take care of during a theatrical event such as this. We would LOVE your help with:

 

  • Set furnishings and props (you love decorating? We NEED you! Help us locate a few key items!)

  • ushering (passing out programs at a show)

  • Master Class Registration table

  • putting posters up

  • passing out postcards

  • sharing info on social media

If you've got some time, and a special skill that might be helpful, please let us know!

In exchange for your time, you will receive ONE TICKET for one of the shows. Perhaps more, depending on your level of involvement. Please contact us and we can chat about details.
